Kennedy Sawatzky gets first ACAC start in sweep at the hands of SAIT

Friday, January 25, 2013 SAIT defeated Briercrest women’s basketball 74-41.

SAIT forced Briercrest into 37 turnovers and only made 12 of their own, while also taking 72 shots compared to Briercrest’s 43. After keeping the score close at 17-16 for SAIT after one quarter, Briecrest was not able to maintain contact and were down 38-22 at half-time.

“Player of the game was Tracy Frimpong with 12 points, on 6 for 6 shooting, six rebounds, one block and one steal. Nicole Meyer had five points on 66 percent shooting to go with three rebounds. Claire Richardson had five points, eight rebounds and four assists.”

 

Friday, January 26, 2013 SAIT defeated Briercrest 81-33.

SAIT was once again able to assert pressure and force 37 turnovers compared to making 16. They also forced Briercrest into bad shooting percentage. SAIT put the pressure on early to build a 25-3 lead after the first quarter and 53-10 at halftime. Briercrest performed better in the second half, losing 15-11 and 13-12 in the third and fourth quarters respectively, but were unable to get back into the game. Briercrest held the edge in block two to one, as well as in rebounds at 43 to 40, while shots were 68 to 49 in favour of SAIT.

Head Coach Chad Romanuk saw some encouraging performances on Saturday.

“Kennedy Sawatzky had her first start today and was player of the game with seven points on 2-of-3 from the field and two-of-two from the free throw line. She also had four boards and two assists. Claire Richardson had nine points and nine boards.”
