Basketball

Briercrest basketball enters the second semester after an ACAC bye week by hosting Olds College Jan. 18-19.

After posting an ACAC leading 9-1 record and riding a four game win streak to open the 2012-13 season men's basketball used their bye week to travel to the US to play Dickson State and Williston State last weekend and gained experience for their younger players as three starters remained in Caronport to complete modular classes. Olds is currently in 11th place in the ACAC, but can not be taken lightly as they are a young team that is continually gaining experience and growing. They also defeated Concordia, who are the only ACAC team to defeat Briercrest this season.

After enjoying the bye week the Briercrest women sit in fourth place in the ACAC South with a record of 2-8 and are riding a two game win streak. They have added three players to their roster, Melissa Kelsey returning after a few years off and two red-shirts for next season, and are excited to make some noise this second semester. Olds currently sits in 7th place in the ACAC, but are coming off a weekend sweep of ACAC South leading SAIT and are a very young and exciting team led by the leading scorer in CCAA.

All games will be played at the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium in Caronport. The women will hit the floor at 6:00 pm on Friday and 1:00 pm on Saturday, while the men will follow at 8:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Games will also be broadcast online at http://www.sportscanada.tv/index.php/briercrest-clippers. Also, be sure to "like" Briercrest Basketball for photos and updates.

Hockey

Briercrest will be hosting Keyano College Jan. 18-19. Briercrest will be looking to get into the win column at home against a Keyano team that currently sits in the final playoff spot in the ACAC. Briercrest has added several players to their roster this second semester, both returning and new to the program, and will look to use the added depth to their advantage.

Game times are 7:30 pm on Friday, Jan. 18 and 2:00 pm Saturday, Jan. 19. Both games will be played at the Barkman Arena. Games will also be broadcast online at http://www.sportscanada.tv/index.php/briercrest-clippers-hockey.  Also, be sure to "like" Briercrest Hockey for photos and updates.

Volleyball

After weekend sweeps over Lethbridge College Briercrest volleyball continues the half of the season where every game has a huge effect on playoff positioning.

The Briercrest men began the second semester by increasing their winning streak to ten games and an 11-1 conference record to maintain their position in the tough and tight top five teams in the ACAC. Olds is in their first season in the ACAC and are experiencing some growing pains with a 1-11 record.

The women are also riding a winning streak of their own and every game the remainder of the season has huge playoff implications as six of the final eight games are against teams a game or two above them in the standings. This weekend is no exception as Briercrest can leapfrog Olds and their two game advantage in the standings. Briercrest has the opportunity to move to .500 and into the all important top eight in the standings.
