Briercrest men’s basketball traveled to Fort McMurray and kept their four game winning streak alive against Keyano College Huskies in the 94-78 win.

At halftime Briercrest found themselves ahead 48-36 after winning the first quarters with identical 24-18 scores.

Keyano was able to slow down Briercrest a bit in the third quarter winning 20-19, but Briercrest finished the game strong with a 27-20 fourth quarter.

Briercrest head coach Rod Adrian was happy with his team’s performance.

“Big win tonight against an athletic team in Fort McMurray,” Adrian said. “In spite of being cold outside the men demonstrated some hot shooting with 59% from the field.  This moves us to 5-0.”

Player of the Game was James Wohlgeschaffen with 20 pts, 10 reb and 1 monster block.

“I really appreciate his leadership and passion, and most importantly his attitude towards his teammates and opponents alike,” Adrian said.

Gradyn Childerhose led the team with 23 points, 10 rebounds (5 offensive).

“It was a battle inside for him and yet he shot 10 for 16 and continues to lead the league in scoring,” Adrian said. “Caleb Klassen worked hard on both ends of the court and finished with 17 points and four rebounds.  Kenny Boese set the pace and was often the first up the court and ended with 14 points.  We out rebounded the other team by +16, but had 21 turnovers, and ended up having .87 points per possession.”

Game notes: As a team Briercrest was more efficient from the floor and down low shooting 58.7% from the floor (37-63) compared to Keyano’s 40% (30-75), out rebounding Keyano 43 to 27. Keyano won the turnover battle with 11 steals to Briercrest’s three while Keyano also had fifteen assists to Briercrest’s eight.

Briercrest travels to Edmonton to play Concordia at 8 PM on Saturday.
