Another full weekend of Clipper action

Posted: November 4, 2010

All five Clipper teams are in action this weekend.

Hockey, along with the men’s and women’s basketball teams, are at home, while the men’s and women’s volleyball teams are on the road to Edmonton.

Hockey
Your Briercrest Clipper hockey team is hosting the MacEwan University Griffins in a pair of regular season games this weekend. The Clippers are coming off a one-point weekend after a 5-5 tie against the Concordia Thunder last Friday. It's their second tie of the season.

In Saturday’s rematch, the guys lost 5-2 and are looking forward to getting back into the win column.

The Clippers are currently in seventh place in the standings and are looking to gain ground on Concordia, whom they faced last weekend.

MacEwan is currently behind the Clippers in the standings with just one point so far, which they earned in a tie with Portage College early in the regular season.

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. in the Barkman Arena on Friday, then again at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Come out and cheer on your Clippers to a pair of wins this weekend! Friday night’s game will be webcast live on www.sportscanada.tv.

Basketball
Your men’s and women’s basketball teams are also at home this weekend as they host the Keyano College Huskies Friday night and then the MacEwan Griffins Saturday night.

This will be the first-ever regular season inter-divisional play between north and south division opponents in the ACAC. With a new schedule format this season, the Clippers are excited about seeing each team from the ACAC north division once this season.

The men’s team is coming off a pair of losses to the SAIT Trojans last weekend, one of which was a one-point loss in overtime on Friday night. The guys battled back from a 20-point deficit to tie the game and forced overtime, but ended up losing on the final shot of the game. They are excited about the opportunity to get another home victory this weekend.

The ladies had a tough time in Calgary last weekend as they battled the SAIT Trojans, who are currently ranked in the top five in Canada for CCAA women’s basketball. It was a good learning experience against a very strong team, and they are looking forward to putting forth a great effort this weekend to capture their first wins of the season at home.

Game times are 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday for the women, and 8 p.m. both days for the men.

Be sure to come out and be a part of the exciting action in the Margaret P. Reimer gymnasium. Saturday’s games will be shown live on www.sportscanada.tv, so be sure to tune in if you're out of town!

Volleyball
Your Briercrest volleyball teams are on the road to Edmonton this weekend, where they will take on the Concordia University College Thunder. This is the first season for Concordia in ACAC volleyball, but both their men’s and women’s teams have proved to be formidable opponents in the early season.

The Clipper women are off to a tough start to the regular season, having dropped their first four matches of the regular season, with two of those losses coming in five sets. The girls have shown great potential so far and are improving all the time. They are excited about another opportunity to get into the win column this weekend.

The men’s team is off to a great start to the season, winning all four of their matches so far. The first CCAA rankings of the year came out yesterday, and the Clippers are currently ranked number in the country.

They are looking to continue their strong play and pick up another pair of wins in Edmonton this weekend.

Matches start at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) on Friday, with the rematches at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) on Saturday. If you are in the Edmonton area, come on out and support your Clippers!
