Posted: October 28, 2010

All five of your Briercrest Clipper teams are back in action this weekend! Men’s and women’s volleyball will have their home openers this weekend, while hockey and basketball team are on the road.

Men’s and women’s volleyball
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks are coming to town to take on your Clipper volleyball teams for their 2010-2011 home openers. The Clipper men got off to a great start last weekend, opening up the regular season with a pair of wins (3-0, 3-1) at Keyano College.

They are looking to keep the winning streak going against a strong team from Lethbridge, who has a couple of former Briercrest players in their lineup. Lethbridge has a record of one win and one loss after splitting with the Red Deer Kings last weekend.

Your Briercrest women’s volleyball team will also be hosting Lethbridge College in their home opener this weekend. The ladies had a tough start to the season up in Fort McMurray last weekend, but are determined to come back with a strong weekend at home. Their opponents are coming off an 0-2 start to the season as well: they lost both matches to the Red Deer Queens last weekend.

Both teams will be hungry for a win, so it should be exciting ACAC volleyball action!

Match times are at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) on Friday, and then 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) on Saturday. Come out to the Margaret P. Reimer Gymnasium and cheer on your Clipper volleyball teams!

For those of you who will be away, but don’t want to miss the action, all four matches will be broadcast live on www.sportscanada.tv!

Men’s and women’s basketball
Your Briercrest basketball teams are on the road to Calgary this weekend, where they will be going to head-to-head with the SAIT Trojans.

The Clipper Women will be looking for their first win of the regular season after losing two close games to Red Deer College in their home openers last weekend. They are working hard and ready for the challenge against a strong south division opponent from SAIT. The Trojans are tied for first in the division with a record of 2-0.

Your Briercrest men’s team will be looking for more wins this weekend after coming off a split weekend in their home openers with Red Deer. They are excited about another opportunity to win against a south division rival and expect to do just that. The SAIT men’s team is off to an 0-2 start after a pair of games to Lethbridge last weekend.

Game times for the basketball teams are 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) on Friday, followed by the rematches at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) on Saturday.

Hockey
Your Briercrest hockey team is taking on the Concordia University College Thunder in Edmonton this weekend. The Thunder are currently one point ahead of the Clippers in the standings, so this is a great opportunity for a leapfrog into sixth place for the guys. The Clippers picked up a huge win last Friday night against the NAIT Ooks, but followed it up with a loss on Saturday. They are excited to get back in the win column this weekend.

Game times are 8:15 p.m. Friday and 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
