Men's volleyball heads into preseason

Posted: October 20, 2010

The Briercrest men's volleyball team has high expectations as they embark on their 2010-11 regular season campaign.

The defending ACAC silver medallists have been rolling through the pre-season, racking up a record of 13 wins and only three losses. The Clippers have beaten every ACAC team they have faced at least once in the pre-season. One of their three losses was an 18-16 fifth set heartbreak loss to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

The veteran-laden squad has been working really well as a team, and Head Coach Nigel Mullan has been pleased with what he has seen so far in the three pre-season tournaments they have competed in.

“I have been excited to see how the team has progressed through the preseason," he said.  "They have worked hard at developing the chemistry and habits that I think will help us throughout the season.  Our experience has given us an opportunity to get through our learning curve a little bit quicker this year which has translated into a successful preseason for us.”

The Clippers have beaten all of the traditionally strong teams in the ACAC, including the defending champions from SAIT. They wrapped up the pre-season this past weekend at the Mount Royal University tournament, where they went 3-1, including a victories over the Red Deer College Kings, NAIT Ooks, and the host Mount Royal Cougars.

The team will open up their 2010-2011 regular season on the road as they travel to Fort McMurray this weekend. They will take on the Keyano College Huskies, a team they did not see in the pre-season. It will be a good first test and the guys are looking forward to starting the regular season off well.
