Ken is a youth ministry veteran of over 25 years. He has been the youth minister at five churches, run a large youth ministry, and worked in church plants starting from scratch.
Ken was the youth ministry trainer with the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Australia, for four and a half years. During that time, he was involved with training youth leaders for a number of churches.
He is the founder of Youth Surge, Australia. This is a ministry that runs youth gatherings, leadership training events and prints resources for youth leaders (www.youthsurge.com.au).
He has led training workshops trained all over the world including: New Zealand, Malaysia, South Africa, the U.K., Western Europe, and the U.S.A. He has also taught youth ministry at Regent College (Vancouver, B.C.).
His passion is to see a youth ministry that honours God through effective discipleship and evangelism, and his desire is to see strong disciples of Jesus who stay followers for life. These strong young Christians are equipped and able to reach out to their friends for Jesus.
He is a frequent contributor to The Journal of Student Ministries and has written for Youthworker Journal and Youthwork Magazine (UK). He has been a speaker at several of the annual Youth Specialties conferences in the U.S.A.
My research interest is two-fold. First, I am focussing on the connection between longevity in the Christian life and whether there is a connection between entertainment as an evangelistic tool and the lack of longterm Christian commitment among youth. Do youth drop out of the Christian faith because the models and methods we used to attract them (and keep them) were unsustainable and in the end, unhelpful?
