Where are you from?

I am from São Paulo, Brazil.

Where have you studied, and where have you taught before this?

I studied my Diploma of Business Administration at the University of Northern Parana in in 2007, my M.Sc. at the State University of Ponta Grossa in 2015, and my PhD at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in 2018. I have taught as an assistant professor and invited professor at various universities in Brazil, and most recently as a sessional lecturer at the University of Regina.

What have you been working on/researching lately?

I have been researching about evidence-based decision process in the strategic digital city. My research focus involves the use of different technologies that can support the decision-making process in smart cities, such as decision support systems, information systems, data mining, text mining, natural language processing, big data, deep learning, and artificial intelligence.

What interests you most about the world of business and information systems?

I work with the idea that an information system is made up of hardware, software, and peopleware. It is the peopleware element that is the most important. So in an organization, decisions that affect the lives of people, although the use of hardware and software supports them, are carried out by peopleware. Therefore, managers should not be optimistic or pessimistic about the use of technology. They only should be aware of how to use it wisely.

Is there a class you’re looking forward to teaching here? Why?

Yes, CMP 315 Management Information Systems. It is an important class to connect concepts of business and information systems.

Outside of the classroom, what are some of your other interests?

Family, church, community life, soccer, jiu-jitsu, books, and chess.

If you could describe your teaching style in a few words, what would they be?

My philosophy of education is that all students are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment. I desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. The diverse backgrounds of my students enable them to bring to the classroom a variety of ideas relating to the class material. I like to promote an atmosphere of discussion and stimulate students to share their points of view regarding the subject matter and contribute to the educational experience. Some keywords: everyone matters; adaptation; balance; flexibility; and enthusiasm.
