The basic aim of academic coaching is to help students
develop and strengthen their confidence and competence to be
successful in college. Unlike tutoring, academic coaching does not
focus on specific course material rather the focus is on
strengthening study skills and strategies, and broader thinking and
organization skills. It is an investment that pays off throughout a
student's years of education.
Skills to strengthen may include:
- Time management
- Action planning
- Reading strategies
- Research and writing skills
- Exam prep and exam taking strategies
Along with equipping students with foundational skills, we also want to empower students to take ownership of their learning, engage more fully in their studies, and live out their God-given potential. For this reason, academic coaching will encourage students to set the agenda, to reflect on their learning, to explore strategies, and to establish action steps that they will be accountable to carry out.
We are excited to see you grow and to be part of your learning experience here at Briercrest.
