Why TESOL at Briercrest College and Seminary?

Because of the reputation

Briercrest College and Seminary has a strong reputation for preparing students for ministry. To date, BCS has over 20,000 alumni who are serving God in more than 80 countries around the world.

Because of the global context

Unlike many TESOL programs which simply focus on the skills directly connected with English language teaching, Briercrest College and Seminary’s TESOL program is firmly rooted in a global perspective. In addition to the latest theories in TESOL, students learn about living in and engaging with other cultures. Through courses in intercultural communication, cultural anthropology, and an overseas internship, students learn about other cultures and acquire the tools for interacting with and ministering to people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Because of the wider educational context

Briercrest College and Seminary's TESOL programs allow students to examine some of the broader issues of a liberal arts education through courses in history, philosophy, and the social sciences. This helps students to be able to see and engage with the world from a strong biblical foundation.

Because of the blend of TESOL and ministry

All of our TESOL courses focus on the latest thought and practice within English language teaching. There are a number of secular programs which offer similar training in TESOL, but our TESOL programs include something that you would not receive from a program at a secular institution—instruction in how to use English language teaching to minister effectively in a variety of contexts. This key aspect permeates all of our courses and is part of what we like to think of as the “DNA” of our TESOL programs.
