What If I want apply for the Kaléo Program at Camp Qwanoes?
What is the Kaléo Program?
The Kaléo program is an 8-month foundational leadership college program of Camp Qwanoes in partnership with Briercrest College & Seminary for developing young leaders. the training involves a concentrated fusion of academics, leadership training, community, outdoor adventures, and ministry in camp, local churches, and beyond.
The Kaléo Program slogan is "Inspired for Life. Called to Lead." This embodies what students of the Kaléo Program experience and embody throughout their time in the program.
What does the Kaléo Program seek to achieve?
The word Kaléo means "I call". One of the desired outcomes for
our students is that they would hear God's calling on their
life this year and discover God's will for their life. This is
not limited to what vocation God may be calling them to but rather
God's
larger will for their life which is to be transformed into the
image of His Son and to serve His purposes.
How does the Kaléo Program achieve that goal?
The goal of the program is to integrate five different components of successful leadership into one seamless whole. These components are:
Academics: Includes solid, biblically based and rigorous studies taught by qualified faculty as selected by Briercrest College giving students the opportunity to earn one year of college credits. Through this students will be challenged to commit their life fully to God and live a life devoted to serving him.
Ministry: Real-life assignments to put Kaléo program students studies to the test while learning leadership through service in camp ministry, serving in the local church, various community ministries, and participation in a missions outreach.
Leadership Development: Between backpacking, the rigorous academics and learning from other leaders the concept of leadership training is woven into all aspects of the Kaléo program. Students will participate in leadership workshops and put leadership principles into practice by being actively involved in front-line ministry.
Community: Students form an accepting, authentic and constructive community, and as they do so God brings about extraordinary growth and change. Taking responsibility for the place you live is all part of living in community as is community care. Whether doing dishes, caring for the vans or the classroom students will all be a part of caring for the community in this way.
Adventure: A variety of outdoor adventure activities will challenge and stretch students' boundaries in the context of a small student community. Enjoyment in theactivity is not necessarily the ultimate goal we are striving for the in the program.Rather, the goal is enjoyment in what a student has gained in knowledge about themselves personally or spiritually, along with growth in leadership and the maturing process. Often students will learn something from their experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives giving them opportunities to apply that knowledge in any number of life situations. We incorporate biblical teaching into every trip, whether directly during the activity itself or on the trip as part of the adventure programming.
How is the Kaléo Program at Camp Qwanoes connected with Briercrest?
Kaléo is an extension of the ministry of Briercrest College and Seminary, an institution that has been training leaders for over 70 years. Briercrest College prepares students to serve Jesus in whatever capacity He calls them-in mission, ministry, or marketplace roles.
While a student in the Kaléo Program you will take the majority of your classes with Professors from Briercrest College. It is through this partnership that the Kaléo Program can offer a full year of transferable, University level courses to its students. You will receive a one-year certificate (the Kaléo Certificate) from Briercrest College. The Certificate is fully transferable to Briercrest College and is a good foundation from which to pursue a post-secondary degree, whether at Briercrest or elsewhere.
How do I apply and what requirements are there?
The requirements for application into the Kaléo Program are no different from the requirements to get into Briercrest College itself. However, because of the nature of the program as well as the robust schedule that sets the bar high for its students. The application process is more involved on the part of the applicant. In addition, more information is required about the applicant as well as an additional Reference form.
For the application, you can go to our apply online page or to kaleo.ca.
What if I want more Information?
