CHS Changes History
In 1946, CHS was a
revolutionary new high school completing its first year of
operation-and it was revolutionary because it was one of the first
Christian consolidated schools in Saskatchewan. Prior to the
existence of CHS, most young people were educated in one-room
school houses and had to pursue correspondence lessons in order to
further their education. While officially opening in 1946, CHS
graduated its first group of grade 12 students in 1947. Last year
at our commencement ceremonies, we celebrated the launch of our
65th anniversary year, and we are eagerly anticipating the
culmination of this milestone with our upcoming commencement
ceremonies. We are delighted to invite you to join this
celebration of the 65th graduating class of Caronport High School
this June 10th at 2:30pm in Hildebrand Chapel.
As I was preparing for our
commencement service last year, Mrs. Thiessen and I were looking
through some of the first academic records, among them a list of
final marks submitted to the Ministry of Education in 1947.
On this handwritten page, yellowed by time, was the list of a
handful of students who had successfully completed their studies;
among them, the name of Henry Budd stood out to me. Dr. Budd,
as he was later known when he was the President of Briercrest Bible
College, appeared to have been at the top of his class. In
the 65 years that have passed since Henry Budd was a student in our
school, countless students have graduated and moved on into lives
of significance and passion.
In the last several years, we have been
working to clarify our mission and our message-to dip our fingers
into the pool of CHS history to create ripples which will move our
students, both today and 65 years from today, to live faithfully
and passionately. Every day, we are challenging each student to go
forward from this time and place with integrity, compassion, and
humility into a life of meaning-a life that will be memorable and
extraordinary-just as Henry Budd would have been challenged to do
65 years ago.
We will be involving our alumni throughout our graduation weekend
activities at our banquet, our Grad Parent Program and our
commencement ceremony. We are extending an open invitation to
all friends and alumni of CHS to join us for the graduation
exercises on Sunday and for the 65th Anniversary CHS Alumni
Reception following the service. We have three very special
guests preparing to deliver our graduation address-three members of
the Frostad family who have, together, blessed our school from its
earliest days in 1946 until its most recent. It will be a
special and memorable occasion in the life of our institution. At
the end of our ceremony, we will be inviting all of the alumni and
former staff members in attendance to join our 65th graduating
class on the stage for a once in a lifetime photo
opportunity. Following the service, you will be welcomed to
stay for the cake and punch reception sponsored by the Alumni
Association in honour of this special event.
We'd love to have you join us on
June 10, 2012--and we'd love to give you the opportunity to honour
our current grads and to reconnect with alumni and friends as you
join us in celebrating the work that God has been doing through CHS
over the past 66 years.
With blessings,
Deborah Ike,
Principal
George Willatt, Vice-Principal
Vi Thiessen, Administrative
