CMC 301 Foundations of Biblical Worship

Some people see Christian worship as an event that happens on Sunday mornings. They say “Let’s go to worship” or “Where do you attend worship?” Others see it as the musical part of the corporate worship service. They might say “The worship was really good today.” Still others suggest that Christian worship is a lifestyle. These three approaches are all a part of worship, but none are complete in themselves.

Dale has more than 20 years of professional ministry experience, including the roles of teacher, worship pastor, youth pastor, camp administrator, and professional musician. His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Master’s degrees in Christian Education and Leadership, and a Doctorate in Worship Studies. He currently teaches in the areas of worship and church ministry at Briercrest Seminary. Dale is also a lay pastor in a church plant in Moose Jaw, SK, called House of ROC (www.houseofroc.net). Dale, his wife, Rebecca, and their two daughters have been in Caronport since 1997.

BT 205 Hebrew Poetry and Wisdom

This course is about wisdom and poetry in the Bible. Apart from a few popular Psalms, these are the most neglected parts of the Old Testament. By understanding the reasons for this neglect, we will be in a better position to move forward with the material in this course and begin a journey of embracing wisdom and poetry in our personal, family, and church lives.

Ryan graduated from the US Air Force Academy and served in the Air Force for eight years, moving and travelling around the United States and much of the Western world. Leaving his military career behind, he finished a master's degree and then took his lovely wife and three children to England to study for a Ph.D. in Old Testament. They came to Briercrest College and Seminary in 2005 and stayed for three years. Currently, Ryan is a professor at Redeemer University College. Because of his diverse background, Ryan enjoys teaching courses ranging from Old Testament and interpretation to ethics and modern and ancient languages.

CO 317 Family Ministry

Families struggle. Perhaps families struggle more in our current culture than ever before. The societal changes that have impacted families—high divorce rate, cohabitation, step-families, and so forth—have shaken and brought into question norms that have helped families know how to “be.”

Before coming to Briercrest in 1995, Sam served as a pastor for 20 years and later had a private counselling practice in Ottawa. He has also served as a youth pastor and camp manager in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Sam holds a B.A. in Psychology, an M.Div., and a D.Min. in Marriage and Family Ministry. He serves as a counsellor at The Caring Place, a Christian counselling centre in Regina, SK. He and his wife, Erika, have two children and two granddaughters.
