Briercrest fought hard throughout Friday night’s game against the ACAC South first ranked Olds College Broncos. Broncos played a commanding game from start to finish against Briercrest Clippers women’s basketball team with a score of 76-38.

The game started off on a good note with Claire Richardson scoring a lay-up to start the game off in the first 30 seconds. Olds did not hesitate to reply putting their own pressure on Briercrest throughout the rest of the half. Broncos guard Jylisa Williams scored 17 points in the half alone, and continued to play strong as the game continued. The half finished with a score in favor of Old’s 45-20.

New addition Melissa Kelsey is now playing for the Briercrest women’s team for the second semester. Kelsey has played in previous years for Briercrest playing three semesters, starting in the 2006-07 season and last playing in 2008. The veteran player has come back to offer her skills and experience to the young Briercrest team second semester. Kelsey had a notable start scoring five points and draining a three pointer at the end of the second half.

As the game continued Briercrest struggled offensively. Briercrest had trouble getting the ball down low with the height of the players on Olds College and the Broncos did a good job of collapsing on the ball when it was passed down low under the hoop. The pressure forced Briercrest to look for more difficult outside shots. Broncos played tight defensively and offensively with strong game play controlling the tempo from start to finish with the score finishing with 76-38 for the Broncos.

Player of the game for the Broncos was Jylisa Williams with 37 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Player of the game for Briercrest was second year post player Claire Richardson with 11 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

Game notes: Though Olds had the advantage in most categories, Briercrest did hold the edge in three-pointers shooting 5-for-10 compared to Olds’ 3-for-12, defensive rebounds 36 to Olds’ 26 and blocks six to one. Meghan Carr had a game high three blocks in the loss. Brittany Larson had a game high four assists.
