Program applications

If you are applying for a program, please complete the program application forms on the Apply Now page or call Admissions at 1-800-667-5199 for more information.

 

General Admissions Requirements

Applicants wishing to be accepted to Briercrest College as a full or part-time student must:

  • Have earned a high school diploma with a minimum average of 60 percent in four academic grade 12 courses including at least one academic English course
  • Be a professing and practicing Christian
  • Commit to live by the standards set out the Briercrest College and Seminary (found here)
  • Complete and submit all portions of the College Application

Mature Students

  • Students wishing to enroll at Briercrest College as a mature student must be 23 years of age or older. 
  • Applicants who are under this designation must complete the admissions portfolio (outlined above).
  • If a student does not have access to a high school transcript they may submit a GED with a minimum score of 500, with no less than 450 in any of the five individual tests.

Home Schooled Students

  • Students will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Home Schooled students applying without a Provincial high school transcript must submit an SAT or ACT, with a minimum score of 1590 or 22 respectively.
  • Student must submit either  Provincial transcripts or Home Schooled transcripts and SAT/ACT score
  • All applying students must have completed the required grade 12 academic courses outlined in the general admissions requirements in order to be considered for admissions.
  • Home Schooled applicants may be offered a conditional acceptance if:
    • They apply without a provincially accredited high school transcript and less than 4 completed academic grade 12 courses
    • They apply without a provincially accredited high school transcript and achieving below the benchmark scores in the SAT (min. score of 1590) or ACT (min. score of 22).
  • Additional information may be required for those who have not completed a provincially accredited home schooling program.

Re-entry Students

  • Any student who has graduated or has completed their term of study and wishes to return to Briercrest College and has been out of the school for 4 or less semesters can return as a re-entry student. 
  • This means that they do not have to go through the regular admissions process.  
  • The student should contact academic services to re enter.  Academic Services can be contacted through email at academicservices@briercrest.ca or you can call them toll free at 1-800-645-2275.

Transfer Students

  • Transfer students must complete the general admission portfolio (outlined above).
  • Transfer students are those with a minimum of 24 credit hours completed from another post-secondary institution. A formal transfer analysis must be completed by the Registrar's office to determine the official number of transfers. Transfer students will be considered from:
    • Unaccredited Christian post-secondary schools (including YWAM and Capenwray programs)
    • Accredited Christian post-secondary institutions
    • Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology
    • Universities

In cases where a student applies to Briercrest College and doesn't meet the general admissions requirements the student may, in certain cases, offer a conditional acceptance.

A conditional acceptance will consist of the following:

  • Student will be allowed to register for a maximum of 4 courses in the first semester with one of the required courses being ENG 100 Literature and Composition I.
  • Student must maintain a 2.0 GPA in the first semester. Failure to maintain a first semester GPA of 2.0 will result in mandatory academic coaching and a corresponding $200 coaching fee.
  • Refusal to actively participate in and pay for academic coaching will result in the student being required to discontinue their studies with Briercrest.

For all applications there may be circumstances that require additional information (educational assessments, references, etc) before an acceptance decisions can be made. The Admissions Office reserves the right to request further information at any point during the application process.


Program Specific Requirements

Students who wish to enroll in the Applied Linguistics: TESOL, Kaléo, or the Concurrent (Education, Social Work, Communication Disorders or Addictions Studies) certificate/degree programs:

Applied Linguistics: TESOL

In addition to the regular application process (see the drop down menu above), the applicant is required to successfully complete:

  • The Language Awareness Test (LAT)
  • The Applied Linguistics:TESOL application essay
  • An invertivew with the program coordinator of the Applied Linguistics: TESOL program.

This portion of the application will take place after the regular application process. Your admissions adviser will notify you when the program specific application can be started.

The Kaléo Program at Camp Qwanoes

In addition to the regular application process (see the drop down menu above), the applicant is required to successfully complete:

  • An additional character reference (which can be found here)
  • An invertivew with the program coordinator of the Kaléo Program.

The interview will be conducted upon completion of the regular application process and the additional reference form.

Concurrent Degree Program: Education

In addition to the regular application process (see the drop down menu above), the applicant is required to successfully complete:

  • A criminal record check
  • Minot State University application form (can be found here)

There will also be a second level of review for Education program applicants.  This review is performed by the program coordinator for the Education program.

For acceptance into the Education program a minimum grade of 70% is required in Grade 12 English.

Concurrent Degree Program: Social Work, Communication Disorders, Addictions Studies 

In addition to the regular application process (see the drop down menu above), the applicant is required to successfully complete:

  • A criminal record check
  • Minot State University application form (can be found here)

After these forms have been submitted the student's application will be reviewed by their admissions adviser.

American Applicants

 

Along with all the general admissions requirements (see the above tab), Students must graduate from High School with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and your high school diploma must include the following: 

 

  • Four years of English Language Arts
  • Three years of mathematics
  • Two years of Social Science/Humanities (grade 12 included)
  • Two years of Science (grade 12 included)
  • Two years of additional academic courses- SAT Reasoning or ACT scores, with a minimum score of 1590 or 22. Tests are available online here:

International Applicants

International Students are those who:
  • Are neither citizens nor permanent residents of Canada must apply for and obtain a study permit if they wish to study in Canada.
  •  The following criteria are applicable for prospective students who fit this category and are requesting admission to Briercrest College and Seminary. 

Application Requirements

  • Applicants must submit an application portfolio (see above) 
  • International students must provide a $100 non-refundable application fee (payment must be made in Canadian funds). 

NOTE: We recommend that prospective international students submit their applications at least six months prior to beginning studies. The application package must be completed (including transcripts, financial guarantees, etc.) at least 60 days before the planned date of arrival to allow time for the student to receive visa application papers.

Financial Requirements (not applicable for U.S. students)

International students requiring a study permit to attend Briercrest College and Seminary will be considered for admission only if they can meet the requirements of a financial guarantee for themselves and all dependents that will be accompanying them to Canada. This will be done by:

  • depositing sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and other school fees for the student and family for the first year of studies to Briercrest College and Seminary.
    • This information is required for the student permit application.
  • depositing $2,500 per person to cover return air transportation to the student's country of origin to Briercrest College and Seminary.

NOTE: These amounts will be held on deposit at the college until they are needed for their intended purpose. Payment should be made in Canadian funds and is payable only by wire transfer, certified cheque, MasterCard, or VISA.

Academic Requirements

  • Students must submit official copies of transcripts from all previously attended: 
  • high schools 
  • language schools 
  • colleges
  • and/or universities 
  • Where transcripts are in an original language other than French or English, certified English translations of the transcripts must also be provided.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A letter of acceptance for the purpose of obtaining a study permit cannot be released until the application portfolio is complete and reviewed.

English Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must submit a paper-based TOEFL score of no less than 550. We will also consider MELAB, IELTS, and other approved ESL program scores.

NOTE: The TOEFL test is recommended for students at the Grade 11 level or above; the test content is considered too difficult for younger students.

Proof of English proficiency may not be required for applicants who have attended secondary or post-secondary institutions where the language of instruction and examination is English. Please contact an Admissions Adviser for further information.

Province Admissions Requirement

British Columbia (and Yukon)

 

Students must have a Dogwood Diploma (Yukon Secondary School Graduation Certificate) with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 12 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Alberta

 

Students must have an Alberta High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 30-1 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Saskatchewan

 

Students must have a Transcript of Secondary Level Achievement with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English A30 and English B30 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Manitoba

 

Students must have a High School Statement of Marks with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 40S with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Ontario

 

Students must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses at the U or M level, including ENG4U or ENG4C with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Quebec

 

Students must have a Secondary School Diploma and at least one year of CEGEP completed with a minimum average of 60% from CEGEP. Students who have completed a two-year CEGEP program may be eligible for transfer credit.

 

New Brunswick

 

Students must have a High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 12 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Nova Scotia

 

Students must have a High School Graduation Diploma with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 12 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

 

Newfoundland/Labrador

 

Students must have a High School Graduation Certificate with a minimum of 4 academic grade 12 courses, including English 12 with a minimum average of 60% overall.

Seminary

Below you will find all of the criteria that are required for acceptance into Briercrest Seminary.

Regular Application

  • Possession of a 4 year undergraduate degree from an accredited academic institution.

  • Be able to provide a statement of faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Commitment to live by biblical standards and according to the code of conduct and guidelines of Briercrest College and Seminary.

  • Successfull completion of the application portfolio including (the required forms can be accessed here):

    • Form A
    • Form B
    • Form C
    • The Outcomes Assessment Essay
    • Official undergraduate transcript(s)
    • Any other transcripts from undergraduate or graduate schools previously attended.

Christian Experience

Briercrest College and Seminary is committed to equipping individuals with the skills and convictions necessary for Christian life and ministry. Applicants must genuinely testify to their personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and further evidence this commitment to Him. Applicants must also possess a reputable character, academic ability, and a capacity for ministry.

Academic Requirements

Students entering a seminary program at Briercrest must have completed an accredited four-year baccalaureate degree. If this prerequisite is not in place, students must:

  • Demonstrate that their undergraduate work is the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree (minimum of 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher). 

  • Or in certain cases, the applicant may be permitted to complete the Certificate of the Seminary. Upon completion of the Certificate the student will be permitted to re-apply to their program of choice. 

Mature Student Status

Applicants without a previous undergraduate degree may be considered for entrance into the Certificate of the Seminary program. Upon successful completion of the Certificate program, the student will be permitted to re-apply to their desired program and may be admitted as a mature student with a Bachelor's equivalent.

International Students

The international student must:

  • Meet all the criteria for regular admission (above).

  • Deposit all the funds required for one year of study (tuition + living expenses) plus $2500.00 (per family member) return airfare into their Briercrest student account.

  • Meet our English Language Requirements for admission.

  • Submit official transcripts that have been translated into English (if necessary).

  •  The following criteria are applicable for prospective students who fit this category and are requesting admission to Briercrest College and Seminary. 

 

Application Requirements

 

  • Applicants must submit an application portfolio (see above) 
  • International students must provide a $100 non-refundable application fee (payment must be made in Canadian funds). 

 

NOTE: We recommend that prospective international students submit their applications at least six months prior to beginning studies. The application package must be completed (including transcripts, financial guarantees, etc.) at least 60 days before the planned date of arrival to allow time for the student to receive visa application papers.

 

Financial Requirements (not applicable for U.S. students)

 

International students requiring a study permit to attend Briercrest College and Seminary will be considered for admission only if they can meet the requirements of a financial guarantee for themselves and all dependents that will be accompanying them to Canada. This will be done by:

 

  • depositing sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and other school fees for the student and family for the first year of studies to Briercrest College and Seminary.
    • This information is required for the student permit application.
  • depositing $2,500 per person to cover return air transportation to the student's country of origin to Briercrest College and Seminary.

 

NOTE: These amounts will be held on deposit at the college until they are needed for their intended purpose. Payment should be made in Canadian funds and is payable only by wire transfer, certified cheque, MasterCard, or VISA.

 

Academic Requirements

 

  • Students must submit official copies of transcripts from all previously attended: 
  • high schools 
  • language schools 
  • colleges
  • and/or universities 
  • Where transcripts are in an original language other than French or English, certified English translations of the transcripts must also be provided.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: A letter of acceptance for the purpose of obtaining a study permit cannot be released until the application portfolio is complete and reviewed.

 

English Proficiency

 

All applicants whose first language is not English must submit a paper-based TOEFL score of no less than 550. We will also consider MELAB, IELTS, and other approved ESL program scores.

 

NOTE: The TOEFL test is recommended for students at the Grade 11 level or above; the test content is considered too difficult for younger students.

 

Proof of English proficiency may not be required for applicants who have attended secondary or post-secondary institutions where the language of instruction and examination is English. Please contact an Admissions Adviser for further information.

Admissions and application procedures:

We will review your application once you have submitted all necessary forms as outlined in the application portfolio. You must also pay a $50 ($150 for international applications) non-refundable application fee to cover the cost of processing your application. You may pay it by phoning or faxing in your credit card number or by sending a cheque or money order in the mail. Please do not send cash by mail.

Application deadlines:

If you would like to apply for the fall semester at Caronport High School, please complete applications forms A through E and submit your most recent high school transcripts. Please submit your application as early as possible. There is a late fee of $100 for applicants who submit their application after August 1.

Notification of acceptance:

The Admissions office works hard to process applications quickly.  Please note that applications that are received and completed prior to June 15 take up to two weeks to be reviewed by the CHS Admissions committee. Applications that are received after June 15 can take up to one month to be reviewed. We will contact you as soon as an acceptance decision has been made.

Confirmation of enrolment:

Upon acceptance of the application, the student is required to remit a confirmation deposit to confirm his/her enrollment at CHS. Confirmation deposit fee is $200 and is payable by credit card, cheque or money order. This amount is credited to the student's account upon registration, but is not refundable if the student does not enrol. We require that students submit this fee in order to secure a place in one of our residences. 

Admissions requirements:

  • Successful completion of previous academic level/grade.
  • Commitment to live by biblical standards and according to the rules and guidelines of CHS.
  • Goals and desires which match the purpose of the school.
  • Recommendations endorsing Christian character and a growing walk with God (forms included in the application portfolio).
