Dear Alumni,
The 2010 calendar year marks Briercrest's 75th anniversary. We have been blessed with a rich and significant history.
While reading Dr. Hildebrand's book, In His Loving Service, I came across this quote from our founder as he wrote about the importance of our alumni:
Most of our alumni are bearing a good confession within the church and secular world. Many of our grads have surpassed us and are doing greater works and are doing it better than we ever did … I believe that (we) have been called to this exciting ministry of training young people. I believe it is the way of securing and perpetuating our trust.
I was struck by the fact that this is still our work today. What was true 25 years ago when Dr. Hildebrand first wrote this book is still true today.
I choose to continue to serve here for the very reason that it is a place that continues to send out world-changers. Our students and staff are pursuing the heart of Jesus and refuse to buy into the common thinking that says what you can do is far more important than the kind of person you are.
I love the fact that at Briercrest we refuse to discount one in order to get at the other. Our uncommon way of thinking causes us to stand up and say that it's not either/or but rather both/and.
We absolutely want to produce students who are equipped to do great things. We want competent thinkers. We want strategic problem-solvers. We want world-changers.
We also want to produce men and women of unquestionable integrity. We desperately want to see men and women leave this place so grounded in the principles and values of Scripture that their lives become a living, daily act of service to others and to our Lord, whatever avenue he compels them to serve through.
So I extend the invitation to you today to share your story with me. What has God been doing in your life since your days as a student in our college? What are you learning today? How are you giving your life to the service of others today? How has your Briercrest experience put you on a path of living each day as a significant kingdom day?
Looking forward to hearing your stories.
